Money matters, honestly
Refund & Cancellation Policy
Contributions to our celebrations are voluntary and pooled into a shared community fund. This policy explains, honestly, when refunds are possible and exactly how to request one.
01Nature of contributions
Contributions on OCOC are voluntary. No resident is ever required to contribute, and participation in events is open to everyone regardless of whether they contribute.
Contributions are pooled into a single shared community fund used to organise the celebrations — pandal, sound, decor, prasad, prizes, logistics and more. Because the fund is shared and spent collectively, money committed to a celebration is largely non-refundable once it has been used. We aim to be completely transparent about this up front.
02Event contribution refunds
Where a contribution is tied to a specific event and that event has not yet incurred costs against it, a refund may be possible:
- Before any spend has been committed for the event, a contribution can usually be refunded in full on request
- Once funds have been committed (vendor advances, bookings, purchases), refunds are limited to the unspent portion, if any
- Duplicate or clearly erroneous payments are refunded in full once verified against our records
Refunds are always assessed against the transparent ledger so that the fairness to every other contributor is preserved.
03Event cancellation scenarios
Sometimes an event must be postponed or cancelled — for weather, permissions, safety or low participation. In those cases:
- Postponement — your contribution normally carries over to the rescheduled date; no action is needed
- Cancellation with unspent funds — the unspent balance in the shared fund is either refunded proportionally or, with the community's agreement, carried to the next celebration
- Cancellation after spend — amounts already committed to vendors or purchases cannot be recovered and are not refundable
Decisions on handling the shared fund after a cancellation are taken by the Organizing Committee and documented in the published accounts.
04Donations & general contributions
General donations and contributions to the community fund (not tied to a single event) are typically non-refundable once they have been spent on the celebration, because they immediately become part of the shared, collectively-managed fund.
Exceptions we will always honour:
- Verified duplicate or accidental payments
- Payments made in a clearly incorrect amount, where the difference is unspent
- Any case where a refund is required under applicable law
05How to request a refund
If you believe you are eligible for a refund, here is exactly how to request one:
- Raise a request through the contact form or email us at onecommunityonecelebration@gmail.com
- Include the contributor name, tower & flat, event, amount, date, and the payment reference (UTR / transaction id / receipt number)
- We acknowledge the request within 48 hours and verify it against the ledger
- Eligible refunds are processed within 7 working days of approval
- Refunds are returned to the original payment method — the same UPI ID or account used to pay
Payments today are recorded by reference. As the platform matures, we intend to support automated refunds through Razorpay and UPI, which will return funds straight to your original payment method.
